Panajachel best activities

At 1573 meters above sea level, Panajachel is the entry point where most of the tourists get their first glimpse of the lake. With a population of 11,000, 65% of which are indigenous kaqchikel, It is the town the most organized and with the most services around the lake. It is also where you find the largest concentration of ex-patriots. There are extensive bus connections to Xela, Antigua, and Guatemala City either by public or private tourist shuttles or public buses. There are also excellent water taxi services to and from all areas of the lake. A good place to invest where the offers for rentals are low and where you can also enjoy a nice, laid back lifestyle with everything at hand. In Panajachel the entrance port of Lake Atitlan, there are several activities to do for little ones and adults.

One of my favorite activity is to go to La Reserva Natural de la Finca San Buenaventura,  to walk in the hillside going through the cable bridges, having some beautiful views to the volcanos or simply feeding the monkeys and raccoons. But the most I like is to do the Canopy Cables...

To know better the formation of the Lake and its mayan history visit the Archeological Lacustre Museum of Panajachel. Funded in may 1999, it conserves Mayan ceramics encountered under the water, of domestic and ceremonial use from the Pre-Classic, Classic and Late-Classic times. Entrance fee : Q 35 for turists.
